Our roots date back to the 1880s, when the Johnson Company revolutionized street rail systems with the invention of the first steel girder rail. As a pioneer in steel manufacturing, the company quickly became an industry leader. In 1901, it joined United States Steel, helping to shape the backbone of American infrastructure.
By the 1950s, our Johnstown plant had expanded into producing the Lorain mill liner, meeting the growing demand in the mining and materials processing industries. This marked the beginning of our long-standing expertise in mill liners.
Over the decades, the plant evolved—shifting focus to steel castings, mining cars, and specialty components. Yet, throughout these changes, we continued to produce mill liners without interruption. In 1984, the facility transitioned to the Johnstown Corporation. While the plant changed hands several times in the years that followed, mill liner production remained constant, preserving the craftsmanship and quality that define our work.
Today, as Johnstown Specialty Castings, mill liners are the sole focus of our operations. With over a century of history, we continue to deliver reliable, industry-leading solutions that are built on a legacy of quality, precision, and innovation.
